2/2/12 Stella, our newest family member, came home from the breeder today. Her breeder is Johnson Doodles in Stephenville, TX, two hours from Sachse. We met the breeder for the first time today. We'd met through facebook. It was exactly what we were looking for. After a negative experience with a "puppy mill" breeder we knew we wanted what we had in Saphira. A family breeder who only breeds doodles. We wanted a family that owned both the mother and the sire, and owned no other breed of dog. We knew the parents had to be AKC registered. We are certain that this is what gave Saphira the great beginning she had, so we were not going to get our second doodle any other way. We did not want a breeder that owned more than two dogs.
When we arrived in Stephenville, we met the Johnsons, and thier parent dogs. The dam was a gorgeous 50 lb reddish color golden retriever and the sire was a 65 lb white/cream colored standard poodle. Stella is the second smallest of the litter and is a creamy color. Her litter mates were a range of apricot (Saphira's color) to cream. Many of her siblings were larger and than she, and had fur that was more wavy. Its hard to tell how her fur will be as she ages. I am hoping it is more wavy than curly.
